An original oil painting on stretched canvas titled Check Mate by artist Xue Wang. This contemporary work is executed in the Pop Surrealist featuring a central composition of a woman with large, doll-like eyes and hair set in pink rollers. She is dressed in black lingerie and seated at a table across from a monkey wearing a gold crown and a white ruffled Pierrot costume. The pair is depicted playing a game on a checkered board where the traditional pieces are replaced by lipsticks, strawberries, cherries, and a kiwi slice. The interior setting includes a pink curtain, a rug with floral motifs, and two framed works on the wall: a Dutch Master-style portrait and a landscape. The work is signed with block letters reading XUE in the lower corner and a stylized script signature reading Xue on the lower left edge of the depicted rug. The painting is housed in a deep, ornate wooden frame with a dark gilt finish and a white wooden liner.
