Provenance: Sale, Christie's, Victorian and British Impressionist Art, London, 10 November 2011, set 137 The Collection of George Hayburn The present work is a study for the painting in Birmingham City Art Gallery. The canvas has been relined and provides good support to the paint surface. There is slight surface cracks across, very few and consistent. The UV light reveals thin vertical retouch to the left border of approx. 20cm, and a few very slight retouches to the upper border. There is a slight stain on the chin. The canvas is in good condition and has been restored professionally.
