A large Canton embroidered hanging Chinese for the European market, mid-18th century Embroidered in polychrome threads with 'lotus' and 'chrysanthemum' floral medallions issuing scrolling foliage, embellished with various kinds of auspicious birds in flight and perched on branches, bordered by a band of auspicious mythical beasts interspersed by lingzhi fruits and floral sprays at the lower edge, all against an ivory silk ground, with modern label inscribed 'Rome 8538' 270 x 286cm (four joined panels of 70 x 135cm)
